Swimming For Weight Loss And Muscle Toning

Swimming is an effective way to lose weight, build muscle and tone? Swimming is considered as one of the best exercises to reduce weight and also to build muscle and tone. So it is not surprising because when you swim, all your major muscle called to action. He also has the effect of aerobic, so that the heart and lungs get too brilliant.

However, a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine showed that in the absence of a diet, swimming has little or no effect on body weight. Professor Grant Gwinup to experiment with the following results.

  • Test subjects run the program lost 17 pounds heavier during the three-month study.
  • Those who follow cycling program lost 19 pounds heavier.
  • However, subjects following a swimming program actually gained 5 pounds.

Professor Louise Burke, Head of Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport, shows that competitive swimmers usually have a body fat level that is higher than the runners or cyclists who pay the same amount of energy when they train.

Many people feel hungry after swimming and can easily replace all the calories they’ve burned with a large meal after their swim. “Some research shows that this is because the temperature is cold to swim in the train. Conversely, runners and cyclists usually experience increased body temperature during training, which can serve to suppress appetite - at least in the short term” said Professor Burke.

Professor Burke further said that competitive swimming less active outside their training sessions. They are very tired from hours of training that they spent sleeping, sitting or avoid real physical activity outside their sessions.
